Get Involved in the Community

Living off campus gives us the unique opportunity to get involved in our community and meet neighbors. The Community Ambassadors host events off campus, attend community meetings and gatherings to learn about their neighborhood, and can help you find some of your neighborhood’s hidden gems! See some of our off-campus events below and how you can get involved with us! Follow us on Instagram @NUoffcampus and sign up for our newsletter to be the first to find out about new opportunities!

Breakfast Club Community Clean-Ups

During the spring and fall we host between 8-10 clean ups in Mission Hill, Fenway and South End/Roxbury neighborhoods. CA’s meet up with students, hand out supplies, and lead the group through the streets to keep our community looking beautiful! After the 1 hour clean up, join your new friends and CAs for a light breakfast at a local coffee shop.

Breakfast club is only offered in the fall and spring semesters.

More information, including our weekly Breakfast Club dates during fall and spring semesters, here.

All Breakfast Club participants will be invited to an end of your beautification project and celebration in April 2024!

Community Husky Award

Students chosen for the Community Husky Award were nominated by their peers and community members as being involved off campus, participating in community service, and for being a good neighbor!

Community Husky Nominations are open!  The selected student recipient is honored at the Student Life Awards in April, and will receive a gift card to a local business of their choice.

Nomination form here. Nominations are due by 3/24/24!

Nominate off-campus Northeastern students for the Community Husky Award to recognize their significant contributions to the community. This award is meant to recognize a student that is a good neighbor, involved in their community, and civically-engaged off campus.

Nominations are accepted from all members of Northeastern’s campuses across the globe.

  1. Provide the first and last name of the person you want to nominate.
  2. Indicate the location of the campus you attend.
  3. Select your degree program.
  4. Provide the nominee’s Northeastern email address.
  5. Provide examples of the student’s commitment to the community and their involvement.  By highlighting the positive impact this student has made off campus, you will share why they should be recognized as this year’s Community Husky.

The Community Husky Award is presented at the annual Student Life Awards in April.

Congratulations to our 2023 Community Husky Award recipient, Ross Vieira

Home Away from Home

International graduate students are invited to be paired with a Boston community member to learn about the city from a local, expand your knowledge of Boston, and share your student experience with our neighbors to build a “home away from home” and a sense of community off campus.

This program is in partnership with the Office of Global Services and City and Community Engagement. The kick off occurs every November during International Education Week on the Boston campus.
